David Clutterbuck shares ongoing research at the leading edge of team coaching and reviews where this fast-expanding discipline is going.

David Clutterbuck Instructor

One of the earliest pioneers of coaching and mentoring, David was one of the two original founders of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, for which he is now Special Ambassador. He holds a PhD by research from King’s College London, postgraduate diploma in coach supervision and is visiting professor at four business schools. He is a distinguished fellow of The Conference Board and leads a global alliance of educators, Coaching and Mentoring International. His key areas of interest include coaching, team coaching, mentoring, talent development, leadership, governance, ethics and the “decolonization of coaching”. David is author, co-author or editor of more than 70 books and hundreds of articles. He is co-editor of the Routledge-EMCC coaching series. He has delivered an estimated 2000 conference papers and maintains a continuous programme of research, with current themes including coach maturity, the ripple effect of mentoring, coaching in politicized environments and the growing practice of supervising coach pairs. He is lead coach for the Ethical Coach project, bringing coaching to developing economies and advisor to the African Executive Coaching Council. Among his current major projects is trailing materials to develop school age coaches and mentors – with a target of achieving 5 million young coaches over a five-year period. He is co-dean of the Global Team Coaching Institute, the world’s largest coach educator. David has held a variety of fellowships and awards as one of the world’s top coaches. He was recognized by the Marshall Goldsmith Foundation as “No 1 Coach for Impact on European Coaching” and has appeared a number of times in the table of HR Most Influential. He is a serial entrepreneur, having built and sold two businesses and served as a non-executive director on a variety of boards. David aims to set himself a major learning challenge each year. He says that the most terrifying was learning to become a stand-up comedian.
